Fairtrade Fortnight

Did you know that “Fairtrade”  has now been a working idea for the last 15 years - and in that time it has provided a proper livelihood for more than 7 million people ?

For this year's Fairtrade Fortnight we are asking people to join the Big Swap - where they will swap their usual brands of, say, tea and coffee for Fairtrade brands. The emphasis this year will be on tea.

We are asking people to hold Fairtrade tea parties - big or small - during the Fortnight. We want everyone to get tea-swapping !  If you can organise a tea party, please let us know where and when it will take place.

For more info. and support materials, please contact :-

  • The Fairtrade Foundation at www.thebigswap.org.uk or phone Supporter Services on 0207 440 7676
  • Traidcraft at www.traidcraft.co.uk  or phone 0191 491 0591 - for packs of Fairtrade tea, sugar and biscuits
Traders Fair is offering 10% off any product purchased during Fairtrade Fortnight plus a free Fairbreak Wafer biscuit.

MARCH 2010

Friday 6th, 14.30 to 17.30

Presentations on Fairtrade Churches

Venue:  Saint James the Less church, Priory Street

This will take the form of a short presentation from Michael Fox on how to become a Fairtrade Church plus a presentation from Winfred Gelli of the Ghana NGO Elikem who are in the process of certifying a number of farm products as fairly traded. This will give us some insights into the process of certification from the producers perspective.

The church would like to invite other churches to join them especially those who are already Fairtrade churches to share their experience.

The whole afternoon will be conceived as a Big Brew event - Traidcraft's particular take on the Fairtrade foundation's theme of the Big Swap - encouraging people to try fairtrade products instead of their unfairly traded ones during the fortnight. Plenty of fairtrade tea and biscuits available!

Any queries? please phone Michael Fox on 710701
